Originally this blogs name was titled Runnin' down a Dream. After finding out of Clarence Clemons passing tonight I find it more fitting to have it called Born to Run.
I am back to my C25K endeavor. I have started this a few times; first 2 times I ended up getting horrible shin splints and stopped. This is the last time I will do this. For the past month, I have been on the no excuses plan. And when I say no excuse, there are none.
Just this week alone I have run in the pouring rain, thunder and lightning, and 85% humidity. No excuses. Sometimes my legs are burning so much I need to walk for awhile. I don’t go very fast, a gazelle I am not. Maybe I will get there someday.

Ridgeland on my run in the rain. It was actually lightening so hard I hid out in the banks doorway. |
The trick I can tell you is to stay with it until it becomes a need, a desire, an addiction, the fire in your belly.
Endorphins are known to induce euphoria. Did you know a good run releases as many endorphins as a good old wham, bam roll in the hay orgasm or the high experienced by heroin or cocaine? The only difference is to get a “runners high” it usually takes about an hour at a time. Good old fashioned orgasms don’t have to be that much of a time investment. And if you’re not having sex you don’t need to become a drug addict. Invest in a good pair of shoes. ;-)

Ridgeland down town, not too busy of a night for Friday. |
My favorite nights are when there is a breeze against my face. Running in the rain, is also one of the best. You get very wet, but it is so worth it! I run at night, alone in the dark, all the thoughts in my brain, trying to get sorted through. My music blaring and not Simon and Garfunkel type music. LOUD, music the louder the better. I listen to the same songs every night, I can gauge if I am getting faster, or am going slower based on where I am when the song is playing. And I NEVER run without Avril.
Usually I am back around 1, sometimes later depending on how many flights of stairs I stop and do. Eat my protein, jump in the shower, play on Face book while I ice my knee if it needs it, take a couple Advil and usually am in bed just before Sam’s alarm goes off at 3. I am sore, my legs are burning, but I sleep. Finally I sleep.
If a year ago someone told me, I would be running 5 out of 7 nights a week in the middle of the night I would have told them they were crazy!
But we all know everything changes, everyone changes. I am not who I was a year ago.
Looks like rain is in the forecast tonight……..
